about

Born in the dead heat of a Salt Lake City summer in 2013, Shadow Windhawk and the Morticians are a solo project founded and fronted by Shadow Windhawk (ex-DieMonsterDie) - current guitarist for Argyle Goolsby and the Roving Midnight and guitarist / bassist for Tragic Black. The first single, "1428", was released via Black Flame Records on Feb. 5th, 2014 ahead of the release of the debut 6-track album, "Casket Spray" - released on Feb. 21 to a slew of glowing reviews, including a review published in HorrorHound Magazine #47. Rue Morgue Magazine reviewed "Casket Spray" in April 2015, giving the album a 4.5/5 rating and calling it "...a labour of love intended for the monster kid in us all...immediately takes you back to the time you first smelled the pungent latex of your first rubber mask, or the autumnal wind on October 31st." The first physical pressing of Casket Spray was released March 5th, 2014 on limited edition CD from Black Flame Records. The CDs sold out within a week. A second pressing of the CD was created in April 2014 and is also sold out. In May 2014, SWATM recorded and released a new single via their Bandcamp site, called "The Never Dead". The track is featured as a special bonus on the third and fourth pressing CDs of Casket Spray from Black Flame Records. SWATM made their debut live performance opening for Michale Graves (ex-Misfits, Gotham Road and Graves frontman) in SLC on June 8th, 2014 as a three-piece. The band also headlined the 2014 Art On You Halloween In Summer Fest on July 19th, 2014 in Magna, UT as a three-piece. On Sept. 9th, 2014, SWATM performed as direct support for Doyle (ex-Misfits). The band released their crowd-funded music video debut, "Halloween '63" on December 11th, 2014 to very strong reviews and on Dec. 18th, 2014, SWATM won the 2014 Evolvie Award for "Best Live Performance in SLC". On February 8th 2015, the band released a pre-order for the first vinyl pressing of "Casket Spray" on Translucent Jack O' Lantern Orange 12" records - with brand new cover artwork created for the band by legendary 90's "Goosebumps" cover illustrator, Tim Jacobus. The vinyl is limited to an edition of 218 pieces worldwide via Black Flame Records and was released exclusively online and at The Heavy Metal Shop (SLC) on June 10th, 2015. Since its release, the Casket Spray 12" vinyl was ranked as one of the top 5 best album releases of 2015 by Devolution Magazine (UK). SWATM performed live on July 25th, 2015 on the East Coast of the US (for the first time) at Dingbatz in Clifton, NJ - appearing alongside fellow horror punk acts Argyle Goolsby and the Roving Midnight, Mister Monster, The Cryptkeeper Five and others. In September 2015, the band launched the official SWATM Fan(g) Club called "The Morticians Assistants". On October 5th, SWATM headlined the 2nd Annual Black Flame Records Monster Bash @ Urban Lounge in SLC, alongside death rock legends Tragic Black and SLC punk rockers, Zombiecock. This was SWATM's last live performance of 2015. The same month, Shadow Windhawk debuted a studio recorded cover of "Stigmata Martyr" by Bauhaus - a track prominently featured in the 1980's cult classic b-horror flick, "Night of the Demons". This version of "Stigmata Martyr" appears on the forthcoming compilation album from HorrorHound Records (USA), entitled "It's Only A Movie”. The cover artwork for this release was illustrated by Ed Repka (famous for his Megadeth album covers). Also appearing on this new album are the Stellar Corpses, Argyle Goolsby and the Roving Midnight, The Big Bad, and Stellar Corpses, to name a few. The compilation comes out on CD and LE Vinyl from HorrorHound Records this October. The album was soft released in a limited first run of CDs at HorrorHound Weekend Cincinnati on March 19th, 2016. In January 2016, Shadow Windhawk successfully crowd funded a 2nd $8,000 project on IndieGoGo, to shoot and cut together the official music video for "1428", as well as finance the recording and subsequent CD / 12" vinyl pressing of SWATM’s 2nd studio album, "Cremation Garden". Shadow Windhawk appeared in a two-page interview in HorrorHound Magazine (#57 - Jan / Feb 2016) discussing the new record and the future of the band. "1428" was released online on March 15th, 2016. Rue Morgue Magazine called the video for 1428 "a dream come true for fans of A Nightmare On Elm Street" and the video was premiered online in Europe via Slam Magazine (Austria). The new "Cremation Garden" LP is complete as of March 25th, 2016 and was released digitally on May 21st, 2016. The first single from CG, “Box Five”, was released in April, ahead of the full-length. The album is out now on CD and digital, with a Limited Edition 12” vinyl pressing to follow in Winter 2016 / 2017. Cremation Garden includes a total of 8 all-new tracks and will be pressed to two variant colors: “Funeral Lily White” (150 copies) and “Crypt Glass” (100 copies). The cover artwork for the CD was created by NexFX (designer of Nightmare on 13th Haunted Attraction). The LE vinyl jacket artwork was painted by Scream Factory cover artist, Joel Robinson (Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2, Return of the Living Dead, Nightbreed). In June 2016, Shadow Windhawk appeared in a special featured article / interview for Rue Morgue Magazine, which spotlights the new record, "Cremation Garden". SWATM’s name also appeared on the cover of the magazine for the first time. Shadow Windhawk and the Morticians returned to the live stage on June 5th, 2016, with Wednesday 13 and Tragic Black in SLC. Metro Bar in SLC, UT. In July 2016, Cremation Garden was reviewed in HorrorHound Mag- hailed as “A hauntingly beautiful rock n’ roll album”.

Black Flame Records relocated to New York City in Sept. 2016. The single, "Unpleasant Dreams", was released in dedication to Elvira on Sept. 17th. Currently, Shadow Windhawk is heading out on tour as a guitarist for Argyle Goolsby on the 2016 Halloween Tour. The tour begins on Oct. 17 and ends on Nov. 8th.
